Where inference runs
Not disclosed
Gemini API terms state data may be stored transiently or cached in any country where Google maintains facilities; region pinning exists only on the separate Vertex AI product.
Region pinning
No
The Gemini Developer API (AI Studio) offers no region pinning; customers needing residency guarantees are pointed to Vertex AI, a different Google Cloud product.
Prompt retention
Retained · 55 days
Prompts and responses are retained 55 days for abuse detection (paid tier); Grounding with Google Search additionally stores prompts and outputs for 30 days with no way to disable it.
Trains on API data
No
On the paid tier Google doesn't use prompts or responses to improve products; on the unpaid tier it does (except for EEA/Switzerland/UK users).
Zero data retention
Available
ZDR requires Google approval per project; Search/Maps grounding, File API, and context caching remain outside ZDR.
